Carrom Pool Game Board

The Classic Board Game Goes Digital

Carrom Pool is a popular tabletop game originating from India, and our digital version of Carrom Pool combines real-life game graphics and realistic physical effects of billiards colliding, allowing you to play this popular tabletop game in India anytime and anywhere.

The word carrom probably comes from carom, which means "to strike and rebound".

A carrom set contains 19 pieces (striker not included) in three distinct colours: 9 white carrom men, 9 black carrom men and 1 red queen.

Carrom follows similar "strike and pocket" games, like pool, with its use of rebounds, angles, and obstruction of opponent's carrom pieces.

In South Asia, many clubs and cafés hold regular tournaments. Carrom is commonly played by families, including children, and at social functions. Different standards and rules exist in different areas.

How to Play Carrom Pool

Master the basics with our step-by-step guide

1

Understanding the Board

The carrom board is in the shape of a square with a pocket on each corner of the board, and a set of carrom pieces on the board contains 19 pieces (excluding the batsman) in three different colors: 9 white carrom pieces, 9 black carrom pieces, and 1 red queen.

Game Setup
2

Aiming and Shooting

Strike pieces (forward pieces) are used to strike the Karom pieces and queens on both sides of the board, causing them to fall into the pockets of the board. Place your forward on the baseline, drag backward to aim, release the tension, and hit the chess piece into the chessboard pocket.

Pocketing Your Pieces

Your goal for each game is to put all your colors (black or white pieces) into the chessboard pocket. When you successfully hit a piece of one color into the chessboard pocket, you will get another chance to hit the piece again. You just need to continue putting your colored pieces into the pocket to maintain your advantage in each round.

Capturing the Queen

The red disk is called the queen; it is the most valuable piece. The player must pocket the queen and subsequently pocket a carrom man of the player's own colour. This is termed covering the queen. If by mistake, a player puts a carrom man of the opposite team in the pocket after "pocketing" the queen, then the queen has to be placed in the centre of the board again.

Queen Strategy
5

Winning the Game

To win, pocket all of your pawns and the queen. If you pocket all of your pawns but not your queen, you must wait your turn to pocket your queen. If your opponent pockets all of their pawns first, you lose. If a player pockets their last pawn on the board before their queen, that player loses the entire board.

Tips & Tricks

Advanced strategies to improve your gameplay

Master the Break Shot

The first hit of each chess piece at the beginning of the game is very important. You can use medium force to hit the middle position of the chess piece at an oblique angle to quickly disperse all the chess pieces of different colors, and at the same time, try to hit the chess pieces of your selected color into the chessboard pockets;

Use Bank Shots

Know how to use the technique of hitting the ball by rebounding from the side, and hit the chess pieces that cannot be directly touched into the pocket of the chessboard by rebounding. This technique requires you to practice adjusting the hitting angle more so that the ball can rebound from the side and hit the target chess piece.

Queen Strategy

Don't hit the Queen piece into the pocket on the chessboard too early unless you are sure you can cover it. The Queen piece is sometimes used to block the opponent's chess path. You need to wait until the cards are almost cleared before hitting the Queen piece into the pocket, which will make it easier to win.

Control Power

To play carrom well, it is very important to learn how to control the force of each hit. Each time you hit the chess piece, you don't have to use the maximum hitting force to get it into the chessboard pocket, but you have to know how to use the appropriate force to hit the chess piece, which plays a vital role in your control of the field every time you score a goal.

Block Opponent's Pieces

You need to block the opponent's way of hitting the chess pieces, making it difficult for him to hit the chess pieces of the opponent's color. This kind of playing method is considered a defensive strategy in the game. It mainly increases the difficulty for the opponent to hit the chess pieces into the pockets on the board through the distribution of chess pieces.

Practice Spin Techniques

For advanced operation skills, you need to learn to use rotation skills to move the hitting point away from the center. This hitting technique can create a curved trajectory during the game and more accurately control the ball to fall into the pocket on the board after the collision.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Carrom Pool

If you accidentally knock your opponent's colored chess piece into a pocket while hitting your own chess piece, it means you have increased the opponent's score. For you, it means you have accelerated your opponent's victory, so you need to avoid knocking your opponent's colored chess piece into the chessboard pocket as much as possible. On the contrary, you can also let the chess piece of your color get stuck at the entrance of the chessboard pocket and let the opponent help you hit it into the pocket. This is also a technique that can help you win.

The Red Queen is worth 3 points, and each regular chess piece is worth 1 point. After placing the queen in the bag, another coin must be continuously placed in the bag. Pocketing the queen must be followed by pocketing another coin on the consecutive strike. The queen can only be pocketed if the player has already pocketed a carrom man but has not yet pocketed the last carrom man of the player's colour as a carrom man must be pocketed to cover it. Once the queen is covered, whoever clears all their carrom men first wins the board. Queen and cover can not be pocketed in the same strike, irrespective of the order they enter the pocket. The winner of a board collects one point for each of the opponent's carrom men left at the finish and three points for the queen if covered by the winner (if covered by the loser, no-one gets those points). No more points are collected for the queen after your score reaches 21.

Yes, but it is a foul. If you accidentally pocket the batsman (called a "due"), you will lose the round. This is similar to "zeros" in billiards, which will result in a "due". When a "due" occurs, you must return a previously pocketed carrom piece to the board. In addition, you may need to pay penalty points according to the rules of the game.
